Marina
Vallarta Golf Club
Located in the
prestigious Marina Vallarta area, the Marina
Vallarta Golf Club is walking distance from several of the
finest
hotels in Puerto Vallarta. There are taxis available at
all hotels
that can take you to the Golf Club. Also, there is a
city bus,
identified as the Marina Bus, that can take you to the Golf
Club.
The Marina Vallarta Golf Club, with 18 championship holes, was
designed by the American architect, Joe Finger. Its
magnificent
view of Banderas Bay and the natural obstacles such as palms,
tropical plants and natural lagoons along with abundant
wildlife
and waterfountains, have made it increasingly popular in
the
last few years. It has twice been the site of the Governor’s
Cup
Pro/Am Tournament as well as other important golfing events.
The facilities include a driving range and chipping putting
green,
golf shop and a full-service clubhouse.
Now owned by ClubCorp, a Dallas-based company that owns
or operates more than 220 golf courses, country clubs, private
business clubs and resorts throughout the world.
Paradise Village Golf Course "El Tigre"
The
EL TIGRE golf course itself has been lightheartedly
described as “… one of the most challenging in Mexico”,
yet the
course overall is considered forgiving even by less
experienced golfers. Come play a course unlike any you have
played before. Make EL TIGRE yet another reason to stay
a
week, a month or a lifetime at Paradise Village!
Four Seasons at Punta Mita
About an hour's drive north of Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico's
Pacific Coast, you will find Punta Mita, and the Four Seasons
Resort. From the entrance of the resort property to the club
house is about another 10 minute drive. (Pictured above is the
green for Hole 3-B)
When Jack Nicklaus designed the course for the Four
Season
Resort at Punta Mita, he did something unique. He used a small
island, about 175 yards offshore, for one of the greens. It is
surrounded by what has to be the bigger water hazard in the
world, the Pacific Ocean, and is the only natural island
green
in the world. Hole number 3 is considered by many to be one
of the most beautiful holes in the world. If the tide is too
high,
or the water too rough for the small boat to take you to the
island, there is an alternate green. Either way, playing the
Four Seasons Golf Course will be an experience that will live
on in memory.
Since this is a semi- private course, intended for the hotel
guests of the Four Seasons Resort and golf club members , it
is not played as heavily as most public courses.
Mayan Palace
Golf Course
This course is now open and
offers another exciting option for
golf in Vallarta. The course is very open and there are
a
number of interesting water and sand hazards to test your
skill.
For the less experienced player the strategic placing of
the
tees allows you to play with the more experienced golfers
and
still enjoy a challenging game
Flamingos Golf Course and Country Club
Flamingos is located
just 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta.
There are taxis available at all hotels. Flamingos also
runs a
free shuttle bus twice a day from Puerto Vallarta. Pick
up
outside the Sheraton hotel at 8am and 10am and return at 2pm
and 4pm. Pickups by reservation only.
The new ownership of Flamingos is dedicated to improving the
quality of the course and the area. They have
recently
completed a new club house and pro shop. Plans
include
improving and expanding the irrigation system.
The feeling of openness is just one of the many feelings you
will experience when playing a round of golf here.
Flamingos
has fairways that surround most of the greens, so
chipping will
play a big role on these undulating greens. This
alone will add
to the excitement and challenge of this
well-groomed
masterpiece. The reason for this is that we utilized closely
mowed areas around the greens to bring into play
the
challenge of chipping that has been traditional at the
better,
older courses. The greens are very receptive to this.
Additionally, we tried to make shots not only visually
exciting,
but challenging for all levels of players with all aspects of
the
game requiring attention. The fairway landing areas are
quite
generous, 40 yards wide on average. Some holes can be very
challenging, and golfers generally will use every club in
their
bag. This course, with 3 sets of tees to accommodate
players
of all levels, offers championship playing conditions sunrise
to
sunset, all year long.
El Tamarindo Golf Course
About a 60 minute
drive from Manzanillo, and about a 2 hour
drive from Puerto Vallarta. There is also a package
that
includes transportation by Suburban to and from Tamarindo.
Contact the Vallarta Online Concierge
for more information.
El Tamarindo has been rated "THE BEST HIDDEN LINK IN THE
WORLD" by many important publishers. And top 10 on
expectacularity, beauty and fun to play.
It is seldom that an architect has the opportunity to design a
golf course on land that has such an abundance of natural
features. El Tamarindo is one of the most special sites in the
world. The greatest challenge of the design was not to
overwork the property, but to assist Mother Nature with
what
was given. The site contains a tremendous nature
preserve,
with spectacular plant diversity and exciting view
corridors
that rival the greatest golf courses of the world. The jungle
holes wander through valleys of giant native trees.
According
to nature's calendar, they explode into an incredible color
display of tropical blooms. Where the course exits the
jungle
onto three breathtaking ocean front holes, more shots are
taken with cameras than golf clubs. The ocean is seen from
nine holes with spectacular beaches and crashing surf.
Because the location is remote, you're unlikely to see
much
traffic, and you’ll probably feel as if you have the place
to
yourself. The course is very strategic. Along with the
challenge and sheer beauty of the topography, it can be more
of a pleasure to play here because of the casual pace
and
exceptional value.
